The role of the CASING head is to connect each layer of casing running into the well and seal the annular space of each layer of casing. Between the surface casing and its flange, some are threaded connection, and some are welding (that is, the surface casing and the top flange are welded together by electric welding). The oil reservoir casing and flange reducer are generally connected with screw thread and are seated on the top flange of surface casing, tightened with bolts and sealed with steel rings. The upper flange of the flange reducer is connected with the sleeve cross or tee.

In recent years, some oil wells have not used the flange reducer, but a flange has replaced the flange reducer, that is, two layers of casing are welded on the same flange plate by electric welding.

Pup Joints are used to adjust the height of full length TUBING or casing strings.

They are also used to adjust the depth of downhole tools.
